Lazy Time Reblog Sunday: Tea and Tomes Writer's Residency on GoFundMe

Three wondering bards seek funds to create a safe haven for writers in the New Orleans Marigny. It will be a bookstore, tea shop, and writer's residence. All they need is a bit a gold from a few generous donors, and possibly they need to include coffee on their menu. Because you just can't have writers without coffee. Here's more from their page on GoFundMe: NEW ORLEANS, LA $ 460 of 35k Raised by 5 people in 6 days Donate Now Created December 1, 2014 Tim Raveling We are three travelers: Katherine, Shawn, and Tim, writers and musicians all, who have spent years living in hostels, camping in fields, and sleeping on couches. We have been the recipients of unbelievable generosity, whi...

NaNoWriMo Update: Taming the Muse

No Lazy Time post today. In its stead, please allow me to entertain you with this short excerpt from my NaNoWriMo submission . A little more humorous than the last piece I posted . Certainly, there's a lot less Hitler in it. This is a rough draft, so no hating. Enjoy! Taming the Muse “I really fucking hate you,” I said as I stared at the blank page on the computer screen for what seemed like an eternity. I had been trying to write this stupid story for days, but nothing was coming to me. Nothing. At this point, I would have made do with one line of a dirty limerick, but the words were stuck somewhere in the ether. The blank page stared back at me, mocking me with its crisp white surface. “A piece of paper is an inanimate object, Emily my dear. It has no sentience, can not feel your ire, and therefore does not give a bloody crap what you think of it,” Grim said in that British Cockney accent I had thought was kind of cool when I first met him, but now just g...

NaNoWriMo Update: Almost Eternal Avici

Still woefully behind on my word count, but here's a sample of what I have so far. This story is a little more serious than my usual stuff, so don't go into this expecting giggles. Unless the idea of Hitler's afterlife gives you the case of the happies. This is only a rough draft and is probably rife with spelling and grammar mistakes. Spellcheck SS and Grammar Nazis need not reply: Almost Eternal Avici   By Karen Williams, Written as Karen Plaisance   I found Hitler at the end of his life-that is to say, I found his spirit in the room where he died. This isn’t unusual. Most people, when they perish tarry in or near the area of their demise. For Adolf, this happened to be in the personal study of his Fuhrerbunker , a cold, damp room made to be as comfortable as possible for the former leader of the Third Reich. It must have been quite the shock for such a once powerful man to find himself alone in a tiny room, staring down upon the blood stained sofa whe...

Lazy Time Reblog Sunday: National Novel Writing Month

It is that time of year again, folks! The time of year when family members and favorite TV shows get ignored for an entire month, and grocery stores across the nation suffer from a mysterious shortage of coffee, notebooks, and writing material. The time of year when usually ordinary people go into a homicidal frenzy of mad typing, trying to reach that fifty-k word count by the end of November. It is NaNoWriMo people, and it is a beautiful thing. For those of you who have never participated, NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)is an annual creative writing challenge that happens every November. The goal is to write 50,000 words any time between November 1st until the deadline at November 30th, 11:59 PM. You can sign up and start any time during the month of November, even if it is one minute until the end of deadline. Because hope springs eternal, I guess. There is also no system in place to prevent cheating (cutting and pasting someone...

Never Leave Your Date Waiting...Unless You're Mad at Him and Your Aunt Owns a Shotgun

Here's another sneak peek of Mercy 2. Proof positive that, yes, I haven't totally been goofing off on facebook: I was halfway down the stairway when Adam came for me. He wasn't calling me, but I knew it was him before Aunt Lottie answered the door. I could sense my Woogie's arrival like a dumb dog senses its idiot master has come home. He was standing on the front porch, tugging at the bow tie of his tux, and looking as nervous as a delinquent teenaged prom date. I was surprised that he would show up to pick me up personally, but not half as surprised as he was when Lolita opened the door, aimed her shotgun at his chest, and let him have it with both barrels. I cringed as Adam was propelled backward into the front yard. He was lying on the ground, his cummerbund ripped to bloody shreds. Too bad really. He had looked down right delicious in that tux. "Good evening Mrs. Warren. Nice to see you again Mrs. Warren," Adam groaned. "Good evening to y...

Virtual Martinis, Imaginary Strippers, and a Free Sneak Peek

I made certain promises if my Facebook page reached over 50 likes. No, I will not be showing my boobs again, but to show my gratitude, I'm offering a sneak peek of chapter 2 of my next book (still unnamed). I might even hold a contest that would allow the winner to come up with the title. Not because I'm lazy or anything. (Insert shifty eyes here.) As for the promises of martinis and strippers, feel free to use your imagination. For those of you without an imagination but still in the greater New Orleans area, I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a place that serves alcohol with scantily clad dancers. Just throw a rock, I should think. Chapter Two “I’ll just announce you,” Mrs. Messerschmitt said, gesturing for me to take a seat in the waiting area. I was having none of that. I rushed past her making a beeline for the office door. The silly woman tried to block my path, but I feinted to the left before dodging to the right and snuck past her. Usually t...
