The Hobbit: A Three Hour Movie

I'm going to see The Hobbit tonight. D's been wanting to see it since he heard it came out. This movie is two hours and forty-six minutes long. Not quite as long as Titanic (three hours and fourteen minutes)-a movie, by the way, that branded me a heartless bitch when I turned out to be the only woman who left the theater dry eyed. I was crying on the inside, okay! No, not really. Anyhoo, The Hobbit is definitely long enough for me to take caution not to drink anything before the movie starts. I have a notoriously small bladder. Yes, this is going to be fun. The things we do for love, eh? I've heard the reviews for this movie were less than stellar, but I liked Lord of the Rings , so here's for hoping. When I come back, I'll be sure to tell you just how god-awful it was. Or how delightful. Or how sexy Bilbo Baggins' hairy feet are. I'll try not to do like I did for Sucker Punch and leave you hanging for an ete...

Cheating in High School

I don't remember ever cheating on a test, but if I did, this would be the way I'd do it...you know, if I had friends.

30 Days o' Love

Towards the end of October, I issued my significant other a warning. I was going to be participating in NaNoWriMo this year. Chances were good that I would be so wrapped up in my writing that certain people in my life-namely, him-might get to feeling neglected. I assured him that I still loved him deeply. Passionately, even. It would only be for a month and then I would be back to admiring his magnificence and telling him how truly awesome he is...or something of the like (insert eye roll here). I made it clear that this wasn't another repeat of that Cityof Heroes fiasco where I got so caught up in the game that he eventually threatened to end the relationship on grounds of abandonment. Yes, I got so into a game, my boyfriend threatened to dump me...his girlfriend . I hear from many of my female coworkers and my older sister that this situation is usually reversed and some have even gone on to advise me to seek professional help for this terrible affliction. Since I don't ...

It's a Small World After All

Rest assured, this post isn't about my trip to Disney World or that stupid song that got stuck in my head to the point I thought I would die of an animatronic induced aneurysm. That's a rant I'm saving for another day. No, this one is about bumping into old friends in the least expected places and how you can make new connections from old ones and vice versa. I was at Tastee Donuts on Transcontinental tonight. For those of you worrying that I went there to take a high dive off the diet wagon into a shallow gutter filled with sweet, delicious chocolate covered donuts with sprinkles and lots o' calories, let me set your mind at ease. The NaNoWriMo group met there for our last chance write in and I tagged along even though I'm technically finished. I had one plain cake donut. Don't judge me! Any way, Rob Cerio, one of the participants and a friend of James, a guy who used to game with us on Sunday nights, showed up late with his ...

I Won NaNoWriMo!

I finished writing my 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo the other night and although I won't be winning any prizes (you would think they'd at least offer you a bumper sticker or a coffee mug or Tatum Channing or something), I'm quite proud of me. Quite, Quite. My elation over making my deadline early without being struck by a meteor overflowed-so much so that I instantly got up from my seat and did the Snoopy dance the second my word count made it past 50K, much to the amusement of everyone sitting at French Press on Williams Blvd. To those of you who witnessed this incident and were entertained by my nonexistent dancing skills, you're welcome and please don't post that on YouTube. I will sue.   Instead, enjoy Ihudson930's take on the Snoopy dance of pure joy. Don't forget to follow . Alas, the novel I'm writing is far from finished, but I might include a sneak peek later on if I'm feeling especially petty.

Top 5 Things That Drive Your Massage Therapist Crazy

I recently read an article titled 8 Things Your Masseuse Doesn't Want You to Know . After reading it thoroughly, I've come to the conclusion that the LMT's (licensed massage therapists, for those of you not in the know) interviewed either haven’t been in the business for very long, or really hate their jobs. For example, one of the items mentioned that most massage therapists get scared when their clients snore. I don't buy that. I think if a client is relaxed enough to fall asleep on my table, I'm doing a damn fine job. Isn't snoring like applause for massage therapists? It is to me. It got me to thinking of my own personal pet peeves though, so I tried googling Things Your LMT Hates or Things That Drive Your Masseuse to Drinking, but these searches provided no useful data, and quite frankly I’d like to know what insane, perverted monkey Google put in charge of their search engine for me to come up with this list :   Seriously. You guys have a lot of ex...

Less Than Interesting Stuff That Has Happened To Me Since My Last Post

This is a short list. What can I say? I'm not an interesting person. 1. I wrote a book . Don't get too excited. It's self published and it sucks, but I suckered over 30 people into buying it so far. Yay me. 2. I'm doing NANOWRIMO this month and I'm actually ahead on my word count. This has NEVER happened to me before. I'm expecting something terrible to happen to me at the last minute, like getting too sick to finish before deadline or maybe a meteor striking me from above. I predict the latter to happen moments before I reach the finish line. That's just how my luck rolls. 3. I lost a bit of weight. No, I'm not dying of some wacky disease! I just started eating right and exercising. Rest assured, there have been times while running on my treadmill that I've prayed for the end to come. Running is my word for speed walking slower than a geriatric amputee, by the way. And no, I won't be posting before and after pics. I haven't lost my ug...

I Really Want To See This

I've seen the trailer for Sucker Punch , a movie that seems to be part Alice In Wonderland (not that CGI monstrosity ), part Lemony Snicket , and part 9 . Looks interesting, at any rate. Insane asylums, kick ass hallucinations, and the ever present threat of lobotomy. What more can a girl ask for? Zombies, of course, but I'm still waiting for Max Brook's World War Z to come out. How much longer do I have to wait, Max? How much longer??? 11/22/12: Yeah, Sucker Punch sucked balls. I realize this is a little late in the game, but nobody reads this thing anyway. And World War Z still isn't out yet! How is that fair?!?! The Sucker Punch soundtrack. Just about the only good thing to come out of this movie.

A Life Less Complicated

I've removed two of my blogs: Tree of Life(tm) and Karma Slaves My reasons are varied: 1)I haven't updated either in forever 2)I'm too lazy to start back up 3)No one was reading them anyway 4)I'm too lazy to go back and read what I was writing so I can pick up from where I left off 5)I've revised (in the case of Karma Slaves ) so often, it doesn't remotely resemble the original posting 5)I'm too lazy to post the rewrites 6)I'm rewriting (in the case of Tree of Life ) the original into another genre 7)Did I mention I was too damn lazy? I left The Blessing Curse up because it had the most comments, leading me to believe someone cared about that piece of drivel once upon a time. I don't have the heart to read over it just yet. I'll need to take a powerful antacid and a handful of ibuprofen before I can look at it without cringing.

I just love helpful advice...

This is the last question I asked on Yahoo Answers : This was the only answer I received: I chose it as Best Answer because...like I said, it was the only answer. Of course, I couldn't help but add my own snarky little comment: Asker's Rating: 2 stars. Asker's Comment: ...Okay. See, that's what I was trying to figure out. How to drape the client to prevent exposure during the stretches. Your advice is akin to a veteran gator wrestler telling a newbie the best way not to get bit is to "hold on tight". Kind of vague, but thanks anyway.

Thai Chair Massage 1

I want to take Thai massage for my next CEU.

Another Blog. Stop Hating.

Yes, I know. I've done it again. Why keep a blog if you don't use it? Because I have a short attention span...and a life. Stop laughing! And because I haven't punished myself enough, here's the link for my new short fiction blog, Brain Candy Fun Time . Enjoy.

Why Steve Jobs and Apple Computers Suck

Tried to find Girl by the Beatles from their Rubber Soul album on iTunes. All I found was dreck done by cover bands. The Across the Universe soundtrack was the best version I could find. The singer did a good job, but only sang part of the first verse. My first reaction was annoyance and dismay. My next was to go in search for answers. This is what I found on Wikipedia: The Beatles are among the few major artists whose recorded catalogue is not available through online music services such as iTunes and Napster.[273] Apple Corps' dispute with Apple, Inc. (owners of iTunes) over the use of the name "Apple" is partly responsible, although in November 2008 McCartney said the main obstacle was that EMI "want something we're not prepared to give them."[274] In March 2009, The Guardian reported that "the prospect of an independent, Beatles-specific digital music store" has been raised by Harrison's son, Dhani, who said, "We're losing money...

Nissan Sucks!

Argh! I've spent the past couple days fighting with the people at Nissan to fix my car. $300 later and I still don't know what's wrong. This has set my story schedualing back a bit, but I've updated Blessing Curse and will try to add something to Tree of Knowledge tomorrow or Monday at the latest. Enjoy.

PETA Hates Me

You know, when I wrote the article about Old Red I had a feeling someone would get offended and call me out for it. As it happens, I was right . First, I'd like to say I'm not a marine biologist. I can pick a lobster out of a line up of other crustaceans but that's about it. Ask me about their natural habitat or to name their most common natural predator and I'm at a loss. I didn't do my research on this. Bad one on me but hey, I didn't think I would be tested on it as I was attempting humor, not a dissertation on the plight of homarus americanus. Second, I don't eat lobster. Not for moral reasons but for reasons of taste. I prefer crawfish and shrimp. If you plan on laying a sermon on me for this, don't bother. Lions and tigers and other carnivores don't make apologies for their eating habits. Neither will I. I was raised to be an omnivore. I will die one. I have to admit it does raise certain questions. If the planet were suddenly taken over by ra...

New Schedual

As the next semester of school approaches, I've come to the conclusion that I need to better organize my time. I don't want my writing to fall by the wayside even though I'll be taking *deep inhale, deep exhale* five classes at once. I promised myself I'd update at least once a week and, by golly, that's what I aim to do! With that moment of melodramatic insistence out of the way, here's my proposed update schedule: Lost Days : updates every Wednesday Blessing Curse : updates every Friday Tree of Knowledge(tm) : updates every Saturday Doomtown : Whenever I have the time...I promise...really...I've got to sleep sometime ya know!

140 Year Old Lobster Gets Reprieve

From MSNBC: updated 10:05 a.m. PT, Sat., Jan. 10, 2009 NEW YORK - A 140-year-old lobster that was destined to adorn a dinner plate is back in the ocean after a seafood restaurant in New York City granted him a reprieve. The 20-pound crustacean, named George, was returned to the wild Saturday in a rocky cove in Kennebunkport, Maine, less than a mile from the summer home of former President George H.W. Bush. George the lobster was transported to Maine by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which had beseeched City Crab and Seafood to allow the lobster to go free. I can just imagine this poor creature swimming around in a restaurant's fish tank, waiting for the sweet release of death only to be thrown back into the wild because of some tree hugger with good intentions. I can also imagine the indigestion some unsuspecting whale or shark will get when they chomp down on Old Red the second he's out in the open water. Such is life.
